Background information:

Jonathan^7 Van Wicklin
(James^6, Isaac^5, Paul^4, Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) was. b. abt. 1844 in Cramahe Township, Ontario, Canada. He married Rebecca Bone (b. abt. 1845) on 1 June 1862. Rebecca is the daughter of Cornelius and Lucinda Bone. The 1880 US Census lists Johnathan Van Wicklin, age 38 (b. abt 1842, CAN; father b. CAN, mother b. NY) with wife Annie, age 37 (b. abt 1843, CAN) and daughter, Ida M. Van Wicklin, age 2 (b. abt 1878, CAN) residing in Ridgeway Township, Orleans County, NY. The 1900 US Census lists John Van Wicklin, age 57 (b. Apr. 1842, CAN; father b. CAN, mother b. NY) with wife, Annie, age 56 (b. Aug. 1843, CAN; father and mother both b. CAN). John's age of first marriage is listed as age 38, and he is listed as first immigrating to the US in 1872 (Annie in 1870). John's occupation is listed as carpenter. It would appear that the "John" in the Federal Census is the same one listed above. Consistent with that notion would be his birth in Canada, his presence in the 1871 Census of Ontario, CAN and absence in the 1881 Census of Ontario, his listing in the 1900 census as having arrived in the US in 1872. He is listed as John, Johnathan, and Jonathan in the various records. One minor discrepancy is that the John in the US Census lists his mother as b. in NY, whereas Carissa is listed as b. CAN. However, we know very little about Carissa, so that may be mistaken. If the two "Johns" are one in the same, it would mean that his marriage to Rebecca ended sometime after the birth of George^8 (by Rebecca) and the birth of Ida^8 M. (by Annie). Also, a George Van Wickley, age 18 (b. abt 1862, CAN; Father and mother, b. CAN), is listed in the US Census of 1880 in District 1, Phelps, Ontario, NY as a laborer in the household of Samuel and Nancy Seward.

Children: (by first marriage to Rebecca) George^8 Van Wicklin was b. abt. 1864 in Haldimand Township, Ontario, Canada. According to census data below, George migrated to US by 1880 and was married  and living in Lockport, NY with a 9 year old daughter by 1900. He appears to have remarried to Lila Fodd by 1910 and was now living in Kansas. By 1920 he was in Missouri, and by 1930 he was in Wyoming, where he finally died in 1942. (by second marriage to Annie _____) Ida^8 M. Van Wicklin, b. abt 1878, CAN
